Programme Notes:
There have been many melodies composed to the words of Away in a Manger since it first came on the scene in 1885, but the tunes by William J. Kirkpatrick and James R. Murray have been the ones that have endured. Additionally, a melody composed by Jonathan E. Spilman (known by its more familiar title, Flow Gently, Sweet Afton) has been used as well. All three tunes appear in this arrangement.
Performance Notes:
The flugelhorn and euphonium parts may be played on the usual combination of trumpets and trombone as desired.
